How many times has the Palmer Report already been leaked? The Sunday Age has covered it in detail, David Marr has examined it extensively in the Sydney Morning Herald and now parts of the draft have been tabled in the Queensland Parliament by the state premier himself – more here.
It describes a “litany of deficiencies” by the Department, according to Peter Beattie, and an “assumption culture” among DIMIA droogs. There’s no need to go into the details here – you can read plenty more about them in Michelle Grattan’s piece in The Age – but three leaks of one report? A report that supposedly says Cornelia Rau was “simply a person who desperately needed help,” that “instructions were not followed,” that the affair was “a serious failure of management process and corporate insight”? Who’s leaking against whom here?
The new ministry gets sworn it at 2:30pm this afternoon. Australia doesn’t take to the field against England in Leeds until tomorrow. John Howard still has time to find a semi-competent immigration minister.
