There aren’t enough Australian Democrats around to keep the b*stards
honest any more – and those that are left may disagree just a little on
how to do it. That means the job has moved out from the House on the
Hill and over Lake Burley Griffin to the Australian National University
and the Democratic Audit of Australia project.
The Democratic Audit aims to assess Australia’s strengths and weaknesses as a democratic society.
It carries papers on issues like the use of taxpayers’ money for
political advertising campaigns – such as the federal government’s
current industrial relations campaign – and argues that public money
should not be used for “proposed and unlegislated” policy changes.
