tax reform, the other would be forced to follow.
Now, finally, we have the makings of a Dutch auction on income tax. Labor
has outlined a plan to fund cuts to the top rate(s) by slashing middle class
welfare. The PM has said: “I’ll cut top tax rate.” (Incidentally, the ABC has
claimed this is a deliberate shot at Peter Costello, who has actually done some
tax cutting in recent years.)
So it’s on with the show. This is the most powerful potential bit of
economic reform Australia could undertake. The climate finally seems
right.
