Leaked Brownlow voting
is a perennial and the “winner” of this year’s leak is the Sydney
Swans’ Brett Kirk who is supposedly tied with overwhelming favourite
Ben Cousins on 27 votes at the end of tonight’s count. The Eagles
captain has
had an outstanding season that may yet be capped by holding aloft the
premiership cup on Saturday, but who might beat the chief Weagle?
Last year I tipped
Chris Judd to win and
if I had to name two players to give Cousins a run for the bookies’
money
tonight, the Western Bulldogs’ Scott West has to be a real shot and
Matthew
Pavlich has had a stand-out season for Fremantle. But Cousins should
win as a proven vote getter in past counts, though he and Captain Kirk
would gladly swap “Charlie” for a premiership medallion on
Saturday along with former Swans
legends Tony Lockett and three-time winner Bobby Skilton who have taken
home the medal, but to this
day feel their incomparable careers were never fulfilled because they failed to
win a
premiership.
