They’re not
out of touch in Canberra. The Treasury is acutely aware of the pain
caused by the rise in interest rates, insiders tell Crikey.

As Peter
Costello gave his doorstop outside the Treasury Building, a stone’s throw from Parliament
House, a number of Treasury staff watched from the windows above. They were
amused to see a parking inspector busy in the car park across the street,
issuing tickets to journalists parked in spaces reserved for Commonwealth cars.

But please
note how the ABC gave taxpayers value for money. They escaped a fine by parking their
vehicle on the grass verge nearby.
