Labor thinks it is oh-so-clever this morning with its tactic of appealing to the nation’s NIMBYs with a challenge to the Government to name a site for a future nuclear power station. Knowing that we are years away from a decision on nuclear power, Labor thinks it can frighten people everywhere into thinking they will find one in their back yard.
Well, if and when a Federal government ever does get around to giving nuclear power the go-ahead, it will not want the project encumbered by having to deal with state and local governments.
Just as it was back in the 1960s when this subject was last talked about in a semi-serious fashion, Jervis Bay on the NSW south coast will be the chosen site because it is part of the Australian Capital Territory.
