Your Crikey Canberra correspondent has been
less productive than normal this morning, thanks to a security evacuation exercise
in Parliament House this morning.
Security is taken very seriously at the
House on the Hill nowadays. Comically seriously. Occupants were marched to
assembly points outside the building a little after ten – and waiting outside
it was odd to hear one occupant admit that they’d left their access pass back
on their desk. It was also odd to hear another occupant say they’d sign their
forgetful friend in. And it was even odder when the person was able to march in
through the Senate entrance – where no one seemed to be bothering to check
passes.
