The Fin Review is claiming a scoop this morning that didn’t come from Corporate File, but curiously downplays it back on page 15 without even bothering to include it in the back page companies’ index
According to reporter Tracy Lee, the brave soul taking on the job of AWB CEO is Gordon Davis, presently regional head of Orica’s mining services division. Davis has some prior rural linkage through running the fertiliser division at Incitec when it was an Orica subsidiary.
We can only speculate that finding someone willing to take on AWB would mean punting on a bizoid keen for a CEO-ship and prepared to take the risks for that and/or paying a vast amount of money.
Davis might be more the former. Certainly he should find himself clearly in charge, as the disgraced AWB board is hardly in a position to call many shots. It could be hero-making stuff, establishing Davis as a “turn-around” man who will be worth a lot more in his next gig. Or it could be quicksand.
