Queensland’s off to the polls, with Coalition hopes resting on a stronger
showing by the Liberals and their leader of one week, Bruce Flegg. Leader of
one week. Is that a problem?

The Queensland Libs don’t really seem that
different from their counterparts round the country. The state and territory
Liberal Parties are in a mess, with L-plate leaders at their helms.

The Tasmanian and South Australian parties
replaced their leaders after poor poll showings in March. Since then the WA,
Victorian and ACT parties have pushed their leaders out and installed new
blokes. Ditto Queensland.

The elder statesman of the lot is NSW
Liberal leader Peter Debnam, who got the job when poor old Broggers had his
meltdown. And when did he take the reins? Less than 12 months ago – on 1 September 2005, to be exact.
