Are interest rates rattling the Government? The Prime Minister didn’t handle affordable housing in Question Time yesterday at all well.
He laid into the states. They’re the ones causing the problem, he said, as they won’t release the land.
Is he seriously expecting that they can get enough land on the market quickly enough to cause a significant drop in housing prices? And what does he think existing homeowners would make of the idea – particularly in the old economy states of NSW and Victoria, where prices are already falling?
It’s also been interesting to see the “play the man” attacks on Kim Beazley increase in intensity each Question Time. Something’s showing up in the polling.
