Pen prick? Now that the question of who will govern Queensland has been settled, will we see a solution to an intriguing poll problem – the fate of the campaign costings that vanished from Coalition computers? Sunshine state sources say a former senior Liberal pol’s pen drive might provide some answers.
Public penance. The story of the anti-Semitic slurs from little Liberal Brendan Rowswell has dropped out of the dailies – but Friday’s Australian Jewish News contained an interesting epilogue. Rowswell, apparently, has “offered to do some volunteer work at the Jewish Holocaust Museum and Research Centre”. Crikey readers should understand the code. Rowswell has obviously been dumped on from a very great height. PS: The AJN also reports the distressing news that Australian Jews reported more anti-Semitic incidents in July than in any other month since records began, according to the Executive Council of Australian Jewry.
Musical chairs. The final federal redistribution for NSW won’t be tabled until the end of the year, but pollies are already working to ensure their careers continue even if an electorate is due for the chop. There’s talk that Chief Government Whip Kerry Bartlett will not contest Macquarie at the next election, but instead will go for the new Greenway while Greenway’s current MP, Louise Markus, will move on Mitchell, finally forcing fossil Alan Cadman to retire.
