Since Crikey is running a daily slab of political propaganda under the title of “State of the Planet”, we need to have some balance before this supposedly independent media outlet morphs into the Green-Left Daily. Naturally, our readers truly believe that diversity of opinion as crucial to democratic public debate as diversity of ownership. So, welcome to Greenswatch.
We’re starting off with a beauty – some lines from the Asia Pacific Greens Network Joint Statement for Peaceful Resolution of the Korean Peninsula Nuclear Problem and for a Nuclear-Free World, October 2006:
We are citizens of Asia and the Pacific and members of the Greens. Our desire for peace and denuclearisation is at a crisis…
[W]e are committed to the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula and the peaceful resolution of the nuclear problem…
It is clear that “the oppression policies” of the United States are largely responsible for North Korea taking their hard line…
Well, the “peaceful resolution” has been spectacularly successful so far, hasn’t it? Its lead to the world’s most oppressive and most unpredictable nation acquiring a nuclear weapons capability. But we shouldn’t be surprised that the Greens know who to blame. We shouldn’t be surprised that they appear to hate the United States more than they hate Kim Jong-il’s dictatorship.
