Throne room. Did Queensland Senator and junior minister Santo Santoro really change his accommodation arrangements in Brisbane’s Waterfront Place because Cabinet members Ian Macfarlane and Mal Brough had already bagged the only two suites with private ministerial loos?

A novel fundraiser. Feuding between Santoro and our old pal Michael Johnson continues to make the news in the wake of the factional realignments in the Queensland Libs. Dark threats of disciplinary action have been made against friend Khemlani, but Crikey understands instead that he and Santoro have been ordered to sit down and have a chat and sort it out like big boys. And Crikey also understands that other Queensland Libs think selling tickets to the meeting might make a good fundraising event – the Italian Stallion versus The Stacker from the West.

More Nats nastiness? NSW Nationals are increasingly concerned about any of their number getting ensnared in a scandal plaguing Port Macquarie Hastings Council over the blowout in the costs of a cultural centre. State leader Andrew Stoner defended the Council in Parliament last week, but Crikey understands that some councillors are prominent pillars of the party – and their local federal MP just happens to be federal Nationals leader Mark Vaile.

Movember. Territory MP and Crikey favourite Dave Tollner is sporting a moustache grown for Movember – which seemed to spark off something strange when he asked a question of Alexander Downer yesterday. “I thank the honourable member for the question,” Downer replied. “I also acknowledge the support he gives to the prostate cancer cause, for which I believe he has grown his moustache. My wife is involved in that campaign as well, so I am delighted that he has made an effort.” As the interjections grew, Downer said: “I think you misunderstand – not to mislead the House here in any way”. As they grew, he added “I think they must misunderstand, Mr Speaker”. And as they became overwhelming, he finished off with: “I look forward to seeing her tonight”.
