Crikey’s AFL Hot Form Chart shows who’s hot and who’s not by ranking the teams on the basis of the past five rounds.
And in footy, the question of who’s hot and who’s not doesn’t get any clearer than this. After losing five straight, their full-forward and their coach, Carlton sit a forlorn last on the Hot Form Chart. I guess that’s why the call ‘em the Blues.
At the other end of the Chart, Geelong couldn’t possibly be any hotter. The Cats made it 11 in a row on the weekend after butchering the Bulldogs. Geelong’s next challenge is an away game against Fremantle, who provided stand-in coach Mark Harvey with the almost obligatory first-up win.
For their part, the Bulldogs joined Sydney, Adelaide and Essendon in losing and have now opened the top eight door to finals aspirants St Kilda and Brisbane. The Saints’ and Lions’ recent resurgence is underlined by their Form Chart rankings of fourth and sixth respectively.
The other Hot Form top 4 teams are Port Adelaide, who have stormed into fourth on the AFL ladder on the back of fast, attacking footy; and the Kangaroos, who despite being underrated, unloved and unsung, just keep on winning.
The commentariat has long been chattering about another coach’s demise. Essendon categorically denied any action will be taken on Kevin Sheedy’s future before season’s end but as Crikey heads out today, the death knell’s being rung. With the Bombers sitting 14th on Crikey’s Form Chart and sliding, it might be wise to watch this space.
