It’s been going since 2 October last year, with a temporary nod to the holiday season. The inquest into Princess Diana’s death continues, so too the revelations and allegations.

With the Princess’ butler Paul Burrell taking the stand yesterday, the juice level has stepped up considerably. And there’s more to come. Like in any good soap opera, the first day’s episode “ended on a cliffhanger”, reports Time, with a claim from Fayed lawyer Michael Mansfield that there was a “secret”, spoken of by Diana in a letter, that Burrell was holding out on.

As we hold our collective breath for the big reveal on this latest whispering, here are just some of the things we have already heard about Princess Di — and other players —  in the courts of law and public opinion:

  • Diana’s mother called her a “wh-re” and “disgraceful” and scolded her for “messing around with eff-ing Muslims” in a phone call that ended their relationship, according to Burrell.
  • Dodi Fayed was just a rebound. Diana’s true love was Muslim heart doctor Hasnat Khan. When he refused to take their relationship public, she broke up with him, claims Burrell. The ensuing romance with Dodi — played out in front of the paparazzi — was just a ploy to make Khan jealous.
  • Dr Khan has said the relationship actually ended due to cultural differences: “She is from Venus and I am from Mars. If it ever happened, it would be like a marriage from two different planets.”
  • Diana adopted the alias Dr Armani to keep her identity secret when contacting Khan. Giorgio Armani called her the “most powerful icon of fashion and style of her time”. Diana was wearing a black Armani jacket when she died, as well as a Ralph Lauren belt made of crocodile skin.
  • Dr Khan was once smuggled into Kensington Palace in a car boot.
  • Dr Khan admits he was thinner when dating the princess (presumbly to dispel surprise that he was the love interest). However on meeting him, “one recognises instantly his calm charisma”, notes Simon Davis for the defence in the Daily Telegraph
  • Diana was thinking of purchasing a property where she could take the boys on holiday. Australia was vaguely considered (but the US was more likely, possibly Malibu). Feel the excitement over at news.com.au
  • Mr Fayed’s father, Mohamed Fayed, has contended the Princess was pregnant when she died (thus the conspiracy theory of a plot conjured by the Duke of Edinburgh to kill her). Friends say she couldn’t have been with child because she’d just had her period (is this too much information yet?).
  • Diana’s stepmother, Raine, Countess Spencer, said Diana was “deeply and blissfully” in love with Dodi and that they were likely to have married.
  • Di’s best friend, Rosa Monkton, denies the Princess would have accepted Dodi’s hand in marriage, even though she suspected a ring presentation was imminent. Lady Annabel Goldsmith concurs. Apparently Diana told her she needed a Dodi marriage like she needed a “rash on my face”. Burrell says she told him the same thing. Diana was a joke repeater.
  • A few rungs down, close friend Simone Simmons — Diana’s “energy healer” — claims the Duke of Ed’s letters to Diana were sometimes “nasty” and “cruel”. She claims to have seen letters in 1994 and 1995 in which Prince Philip called her a “harlot and a trollop”. She reckons the Princess could have been bumped off because she was about to “name names” in an anti-landmine crusade. Diana apparently feared M16 would do the dirty work.
  • Paul Burrell’s testimony says letters from Prince Philip in 1992 were “cutting” but not nasty, and denied Prince Philip had ever threatened Diana.
  • Letters tendered in court revealed a different, fond relationship between the Princess and the Duke, with Di thanking “Dearest Pa” for his offer of marriage counsel.
  • Chaffeur Henri Paul was “probably a very nice man but he was sh-t as a driver. And that is a fact”, Dodi’s long-time masseuse and spiritual healer Myriah Daniels told the inquest after taking the oath, “so help me, everybody’s gods”. She told of her fear while being driven by Paul and denied the Princess was pregnant.
  • Di apparently loved men with hairy backs.
