In a major address to the Millennium Forum, Leader of the Opposition Dr Brendan Nelson yesterday highlighted five key challenges for Australia:

1. Ensuring that the next generation of Australians enjoys prosperity;
2. Reviewing the federation and the relationship between the Commonwealth and the States;
3. Adjusting to living on environmental interest instead of capital;
4. Guaranteeing the defence and security of our nation; and
5. Securing Australia’s cohesiveness.

To which we would add: 6. Finding an opposition capable of talking about more than motherhood. Although we quite like the idea of being cohesive.
