Maybe BRW should look at some sort of street corner sales strategy? Whatever the case, times are not good for the country’s one-time leading business magazine. The latest Roy Morgan readership survey shows a BRW readership of 160,000, a 45,000 fall in the 12 months to March. Big Issue, clearly the yardstick publication for any self-respecting business glossy, is sitting on a readership of 174,000, and an annual growth rate of 6.1%.
The country’s most read magazine is New Idea with a readership of 1,966,000, a pretty savage decline from the 2,262,000 that graced its pages in March 2007. Newspaper supplements were steady or slightly in decline. The biggest grower, presumably profiting from the demise of The Bulletin, was The Monthly, now read by 86,000 people, almost double its March 2007 reach of 47,000.
