There is a strong story going around that the content of the email was leaked by Christopher Pyne who was told about it by Peter.

Does ASIC owe Glenn Wheatley almost $650? I looked up Wheatley’s address on Google maps (I knew what it looked like from the newspaper photos) and then googled his address to see if it was correct. It seems he’s owed some money by ASIC! According to the Banking Act, Unclaimed Money as at 31 December 2002, Wheatley was owed $647.64. He might have claimed it since then but then again, he may not know.

The senior management of the ATO only want people and companies to “come clean” because its “new” computer system still does not work. The only way it can carry out an audit is to send out an operative out with a slate and abacus.

The latest demand from the office of Ageing Minister Justine Elliot … all briefs to the minister that involve her attending/officiating at an event are to include a map of the location with instructions on how to get there from the nearest CBD.

How media works department: David Fagan, editor of the Courier Mail, runs a big “grey power” anti-budget story on Monday and then his wife, Madonna King, spends her morning show on 612 touting a pensioners forum – live in West End for her show on Tuesday morning. Alex Mitchell writes: The appointment of Alan Kirkland as head of the NSW Legal Aid Commission (mentioned in my piece in Crikey yesterday) has produced the additional information that Kirkland does not hold legal qualifications. He won the position, which he starts on July 21, ahead of two highly qualified internal candidates, one of them the commission’s deputy director. Kirkland’s ALP connections are impeccable: he stood for selection as an ALP councillor for South Sydney Council in 1999 and is an active member of the party’s unofficial gay network known as the “Rainbow Mafia”. His partner, Adrian Lovney, is president of the Aids Council of NSW (ACON) and both received special thanks in the inaugural speech of upper house MP Penny Sharp on November 16, 2005. Kirkland’s most recent job has been director of community access in the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care where another senior official is Tony Pooley, former mayor of now defunct South Sydney Council and currently a Labor councillor on Sydney City Council. The minister in charge of the department is Kristina Keneally, MP for inner-city Heffron and one of the highly vocal boosters for the Roman Catholic World Youth Day and the Pope’s visit in July.
