The Winners: Seven News won the night with 1.580 million, with Nine’s Wipeout second with 1.480 million at 7.30pm and the repeat of Two and a Half Men on Nine at 7pm with 1.453 million people. Seven’s psychics show, The One, at 7.30pm averaged 1.451 million for 4th and Today Tonight was 5th with 1.443 million. The Fresh episode and repeat of Two and a half Men averaged 1.385 million at 8.30pm to 9.30pm for Nine and beat Seven’s All Saints which was next with 1.313 million. Home and Away averaged 1.267 million at 7pm for Seven in 8th spot, while Nine News was next with 1.241 million and A Current Affair was 10th with 1.218 million. The 7pm ABC News was 11th with 1.163 million and Ten’s double episode of NCIS averaged 1.162 million each in 12th and 13th spots. Ten’s The Simpsons repeat at 8pm averaged 986,000 and the fresh episode at 7.30pm, 969,000.
The Losers: Ramsay’s Boiling Point on Seven at 10pm, 547,000. Ladette To Lady on Nine at 9.30pm: 613,000. I watched the finale and it’s not good news for Nine’s local version which will start production soon.
News & CA: Seven News again won nationally and in every market. Today Tonight won everywhere bar Brisbane. Ten News averaged 860,000 viewers and the late News/Sports Tonight, 516,000. The 7.30 Report, 969,000; Lateline, 249,000; Lateline Business, 145,000. SBS News, 192,000 at 6.30pm, 100,000 on SBS at 9.30pm. 7am Sunrise down to 341,000, 7am Today up to 297,000 — tantalisingly close.
The Stats: Nine and Seven drew All People 6pm to midnight with 28.8% (Seven last week, 28.2%, Nine 26.6%). Ten was next with 22.8% (22.7%). The ABC was on 16.1% (16.0%) and SBS was on 3.6% (6.5%. All the bike racing fans have deserted SBS). Seven won Sydney narrowly and Perth convincingly. Nine won Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. Seven still leads the week narrowly, 28.6% to 28.5% for Nine.
Glenn Dyer’s comments: Wipeout on Nine is meaningless fun but The One on Seven is a bit more dangerous — there are plenty of credulous minds who want to believe this sort of tosh. Wipeout is more popular with male and female viewers in younger demos, but The One was more popular with women viewers in the 25 to 54 group. Most amusing was the way viewers preferred the repeat of Two and a Half Men on Nine at 7pm to the fresh episode and repeat at 8.30pm.
Tonight is again the best night of the week. McLeod’s Daughters at 8.30pm for Nine, Spicks and Specks at 8.30pm, The Gruen Transfer at 9pm and The Hollowmen at 9.30pm for the ABC. Nine has another celebrity edition of This Is Your Life at 7.30pm with the departing Mike Munro and has Missing Persons Unit at 9.30pm. Nine has signed up for another series of MPU, but who will host now that Mike Munro is retiring in October? One last burst for Munro? Seven has RSPCA Animal Rescue at 7.30pm and Criminal Minds at 8.30pm and a repeat at 9.30pm.
