Watching the Prime Minister at the National Press Club this lunchtime is to witness an extraordinary disconnect between rhetoric and action.
Global warming, says Kevin Rudd is the elephant in the room. His government is attacking that elephant with a mouse.
As Bernard Keane puts it in today’s Crikey edition:
The surrender is virtually complete. Our biggest polluters have won, and the rest of us will be paying for it under a joke of an emissions trading scheme that encompasses a significant transfer of wealth to our largest polluters.
And that’s it in a nutshell.

And if you think that is harsh, next time you want to go on a diet, get the guv’mint to do it for you and see how much weight you lose doing precisely what you have always done because “it’s the guv’mint’s fault”.
Bullshit. I think you are disconnected from reality mate. I listened to the speech and the questions.
Alison Rehn’s was particularly intelligent: what have you got against single people with no children, why won’t they be compensated?
Which misses the point. The point is that it is not the coal fired power stations who pollute big time it is the customers who use massive amounts of power who allow the coal fired power stations to pollute. You people should stick to things you know something about instead of this incessant whining.
If people use 30% less power the companies have 30% less profits and we have 30% less pollution so they will be forced to change to cleaner technology.
But they cannot do it f………..g yesterday.
Honest to god it is like talking to ignorant children in pre-pre school, children who refuse to take any responsibility for anything themselves what’s more.
Now think before the next little whinge.
