Here’s a very neat snapshot of who made headlines in 2008 brought to you by Media Monitors — unsurprisingly, PM Rudd improved his 07 ranking of 2 to 1, Brendan Nelson (remember him?) flamed out after shooting from 16 to 2 for a short, glorious time and who would’ve thought that Wayne Swan would be the third most talked about man in the news last year?
Total: 30 Females: 11 = 37% Because we all know women are a ‘minority’, yeah?
Politics: 18 Females: 6 = 33% About the same as our actual number of female MPs. Sigh. 5 ALP – but only because the media is mean to the Greens . . .
Entertainment: 4 Females: 3 = 75% Since when are ‘Our Nic’ and Kylie-of-the-taut-derriere entertaining?????
Sport: 6 Females; 1 = 17% It was an Olympics year, for god’s sake – 1 out of 6?!!!!
News: 2 Females: 1 = 50% A female victim, a male perpetrator – the stereotypes live on.
But what I find most disturbing – what’s happened to our famed Aussie apathy about politics????
