A big, bad week for Malcolm, mostly his own doing, but also as Chapter 423 of the longest ever revenge letter to a political party, written by the Member for the Higgins, as he delights in the desperate support of those who killed his dream.
Will he be the Autumnborg or just the fall guy once more? Anna Bligh is hoping this early equinox election will reverse the recent trend and she will become the first female Premier to win an election, while the stakes for her opposite number and his new party couldn’t be higher.
Meanwhile, the biggest movers were of course the bit players in the latest Liberal Party bizarre love triangle episode, along with the former next premier of NSW, John Robertson, while Julie Bishop gets down to the serious business of picking out some Spring fashions for Europe.
NSW talkback got itself into its first really proper lather of the year over a ministerial refit, while Tony Abbott continues to play the Left against the loony Left (from where Tony’s sitting of course), in the strange belief that it will help his cause.

Was it so completely predictable that the media actually restrained itself from going way over the top? Have the bushfires drained some of the celebrity emotion from the tabloid media for at least a little while? Perhaps in the press, but not on TV, where our Heath got almost twice as much coverage as any pollie.
