The Winners: The grand final of Seven’s Australia’s Got Talent at 7.30pm averaged 1.510 million. Seven News was second with 1.5 million viewers and Today Tonight was third with 1.461 million. The ABC’s The Gruen Transfer averaged 1.212 million at 9pm and won the slot, while Seven’s Home and Away won 7pm with 1.172 million. Spicks and Specks at 8.30pm won with 1.170 million and with The Gruen Transfer won 8.30pm to 9.30pm. Ten’s The Biggest Loser won 7pm to 8pm with 1.133 million and 7th place nationally. Nine News was 8th with 1.126 million; Seven’s repeat of Criminal Minds was next at 8.30pm with 1.123 million. The 7pm ABC News was 10th with 1.1 million, Nine’s repeat of Two and a Half Men at 7pm averaged 1.097 million. A Current Affair was 12th with 1.092 million and RPA averaged 1.005 million at 8pm for Nine. What’s Good for You averaged 938,000 at 7.30pm for Nine (it fell from its return last week). House on Ten was a repeat and averaged 882,000 at 8.30pm. It did better than Nine’s repeat of The Mentalist in the same slot with 774,000. That should be a loser. The Cook and The Chef at 6.30pm on the ABC, 546,000. Lost, 402,000 at 10.30pm on Seven. The most watched program on ABC 2 was Medicine Men Go Wild with 60,000. The highest audience on Ten’s One Sports HD channel: the repeat of the Moto GP, 52,000.

The Losers: Nine, as What’s Good for You faded and dragged down RPA. The former won’t last at this rate, the latter should. With Seven bringing Thank God You’re Here to the 7.30pm timeslot on Wednesday’s Nine will not do well (nor will Ten). So why is Nine wasting RPA at the moment? ACA, down in Sydney again and down nationally. TT is streets ahead. The problem is from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, not from 4.30pm to 6pm, which seems to be the way Nine is looking at its ratings woes. Guerrilla Gardeners at 8pm, 755,000. Ten is moving it to Sunday nights out of the firing line of Thank God You’re Here. Life on Ten at 9.30pm, 719,000. Time for it to go to RPA for emergency surgery I think.

News & CA: Seven News again won nationally and in every market but Brisbane. Today Tonight won everywhere. Nine News had another night over 300,000 viewers in Sydney, Seven News was 108,000 ahead. ACA fell to 276,000 in Sydney. The 7.30 Report had 279,000. The 7pm ABC News had 337,000 in Sydney. Ten News averaged 891,000. The late News/Sports Tonight, 404,000. The 7.30 Report, 774,000 nationally, Lateline, 310,000, Lateline Business, 176,000. SBS News at 6.30pm, 189,000. 234,000 for the late edition at 9.30pm. 7am Sunrise, 356,000, 7am Today, 308,000.

The Stats: Seven won 6pm to midnight All People (and other demos bar 16 to 39) with 30.7% (29.0%), from Nine, 22.9% (24.3%); Ten with 21.8% (21.7%). The ABC was on 18.9% (19.6%), SBS was on 5.6% (5.5%). Seven won all five metro markets and leads the week 27.1% to Ten with 24.5% and Nine on 23.6%. in regional areas a win for Prime/7Qld with 30.5% from WIN/NBN with 24.9%, Southern Cross (Ten) with 20.1%, the ABC on 18.1% and SBS with 6.4%.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: A night with the odd bit of new TV and you saw that in some of the viewer numbers. Seven won because it showed the Grand Final of Australia’s Got Talent. That built on another strong night by Seven News and Today Tonight. That meant Seven was well on its way to winning, which it did. Nine’s What’s Good For You at 7.30pm faded as predicted because its too light. It really needed some of the “gravity” of the first series. This is cheap, once over stuff. The second episode last night was weaker than the first. That affected RPA at 8pm.

Ten battled a bit, even though it had a couple of fresh programs in The Biggest Loser and Guerrilla Gardeners. The ABC prospered with fresh Spicks and Specks, which could have been easily an hour and The Gruen Transfer, which felt and sounded better. Both programs had some rather abrupt edits which was understandable given the half hour formats and the obviously long discussions that must have been happening in the recording for each segment. Ten won 16 to 39 because of The Biggest Loser, Guerrilla Gardeners and Neighbours.

TONIGHT: Getaway and the Footy Shows on Nine and the pap that is 20 to 1 and a repeat to boot. Seven chases younger female viewers with Ghost Whisperer and Private Practice. Scrubs is now on Thursday night as well as Monday. Ten has a fresh The Biggest Loser, fresh Bondi Vet, a repeat of Law and Order SVU and a fresh by dying episode of Life On Mars.

The ABC has the absolutely tragic doc called Solo about Andrew McAuley’s fatal attempt to cross the Tasman. It’s heartbreaking. Q&A afterwards won’t be an antidote, but will have to do. SBS, Mad Men at 8.30pm. A lot of people rave about it. The superficiality of this program will be seen if you flick from the ABC doco. Inspector Rex at 7.30pm. Light, but enjoyable.
