The Losers: How desperate was Nine last night? Commercial Breakdown (an AO version) at 9.30pm to 658,000 viewers. And then at 10.30pm — resurrected Kitchen Nightmares USA to the acclaim of 377,000 people. That was after putting the axe through the earlier line up that had The New Adventures Of Old Christine at 8pm. Nine shuffled a 20 to 1 repeat into 7.30pm instead of at 8.30pm. Out went two hours of CSI New York. Panic stations.
The network’s audience rose, but from rotten to terrible. The amusement at Seven, Ten, the ABC and SBS must have risen yesterday, and soared today when they saw the extent of Nine’s changes and the end result.
News & CA: Seven News again won nationally and in every market but Melbourne. Today Tonight won everywhere. Ten News averaged 910,000. The Late News/Sports Tonight, 429,000. The 7.30 Report averaged 849,000. Lateline, 217,000, Lateline Business, 138,000. SBS News at 6.30pm, 165,000, Insight at 7.30pm, 216,000, the late News at 9.30pm, 240,000. 7am Sunrise, 379,000, 7am Today, 324,000.
The Stats: Seven won 6pm to midnight All People with a share of 33.0% (34.0% last week), from Ten with 25.3% (26.4%), Nine with 20.8% (18.9%), the ABC with 16.2% (15.2%) and SBS with 4.7% (5.5%). Seven won all five metro markets and leads the week 31.0% to 23.9% for Ten and 22.6% for Nine. Ten was 16s to 39s, Seven won the rest. In regional areas a win for Prime/7Qld with 33.2%, to Southern Cross (Ten) with 26.2%, WIN/NBN with 20.2%, the ABC on 15.0% and SBS with 5.2%.
Glenn Dyer’s comments: Last night went according to plan. Seven won and secured the week, Ten finished second and is now second, Nine stumbled and is third, but will end up second as Ten runs out of ratings puff. Clearly Tuesday nights are not Nine’s strong point.
TONIGHT: Will Australia’s Perfect Couple make it to air on Nine tonight at 7.30pm? Hopefully it won’t hurt RPA‘s chances of pulling a solid audience at 8.30pm.
The highlight of the night remains the ABC; Spicks and Specks, the return of The Librarians at 9pm and United States of Tara at 9.30pm. Enough there for any one to watch and saviour.
Seven has World’s Strictest Parents at 7.30pm. I still can’t quite work out why this one works, except it must be watched by a lot of anxious parents of teenagers.
Ten has the fresh Simpsons episode at 7.30pm and then the fresh episode of Law And Order SVU. Also give The 7pm Project a check, 780,000 last night.
SBS, nothing really, Food Safari, at 7.30pm, repeated, again! It’s approaching Inspector Rex status.
