Crikey‘s official pollster of convenience, Twitter* was deployed this morning to gather the public’s opinion on the question of who is the preferred host of the next Andrew Olle lecture.
While the early results indicate that the public would prefer Humphrey B Bear (21%) over all other individual contenders — presumably because he can’t speak, allowing everyone to get right to the point of this shindig, drinking and networking — the most popular option was “Someone who knows something about journalistic practice”.
The Andrew Olle lecture is designed to be one of the most important set pieces of media insight in the Australian calendar. When even a Twitpoll can point out the obvious, it really makes you wonder what they’re smoking over at the ABC.
The only saving grace is that Julian Morrow (18%) outpolled Daryl Somers — suggesting that the choice of host for the Andrew Olle lecture could have been worse… if you really searched hard.
*That some describe as being slightly more accurate than asking random people in Balmain cafes.
