The Winners: Nine’s Getaway deserved its place at the top. It averaged 1.225 million viewers at 7.30pm. Seven News was second with 1.217 million and Beauty And The Geek Australia was third with 1.211 million. Today Tonight was 4th with 1.176 million and the 7pm repeat of Two and a Half Men averaged 1.132 million. Nine’s CSI averaged 1.069 million for 6th spot at 8.30pm, A Current Affair averaged 1.057 million and Home and Away averaged 1.050 million. Nine News was 9th with 1.017 million viewers. Glee on Ten at 7.30pm averaged 905,000, just in front of Seven’s Ghost Whisperer with 895,000. Secret Millionaire at 9.30pm on Nine averaged 891,000 and Rush on Ten at 8.30pm averaged 826,000.

The Losers: The viewing population generally for having The Beauty and The Geek imposed on us by Seven. Seven’s The Amazing Race at 9.30pm, 761,000. That low figure is probably the difference between sneaking past Nine and running second last night.

News & CA: Seven News again won nationally and Today Tonight won everywhere but Melbourne where ACA got up over TT, which shed 55,000 viewers from Seven’s winning news. In Sydney TT beat ACA by just 4000 viewers. But in Sydney, the 7pm ABC News with 321,000, topped the News list for the second night running, ahead of Seven on 313,000 and Nine on 290,000; it’s the daylight saving at work. The 7pm ABC News finished second in Melbourne ahead of Nine, but behind Seven. Nationally the 7pm ABC News averaged 965,000. The 7.30 Report, 778,000. Lateline, 291,000, Lateline Business, 134,000. Ten News averaged 787,000; the late News/Sports Tonight, 402,000. SBS News at 6.30pm, 159,000, the 9.30pm edition, 132,000. Nine’s late News, 168,000. 7am Sunrise, 387,000, 7am Today, 326,000.

The Stats: Nine won All People, 6pm to Midnight with a combined share of 29.1% (28.5%) a week ago. Seven was second with a combined 28.1% (25.6%) and Ten was third with 20.6% (22.1%) and the ABC 4th with 17.4% (19.5%). SBS was on 4./8% (4.4%). Seven won Adelaide, Nine won Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Seven leads the week 30.9% to 26.7%. Seven says it won 16 to 39, 18 to 49 and 25 to 54.

In regional areas WIN/NBN won with 28.9% from Prime/7Qld with 26.4%, Southern Cross (Ten) with 21.3%, the ABC was on 16.8% and SBS 6.5%.

Digitally: Nine’s GO won with 2.00% (leaving the main channel on 27.10%), from 7TWO with 1.60% (Seven’s main channel was second with 26.50%); ABC 2, 1.50% (ABC 1 was on 15.80%). Ten’s ONE was on 1.30% (Ten’s main channel was on 19.30%) and SBS TWO was on 0.60% (SBS ONE, 4.30%).

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Nine clearly won last night. Even though more people tuned into watch Seven’s The Beauty and The Geek Australia, it is still one of the worst programs shown this year; up there with Australia’s Perfect Couple and Aussie Ladette To Lady in sparking an instant cringe factor reaction. But people want to watch it. There is just no accounting for taste on TV.

Seven per cent of the audience watched digital TV last night. More power to them as there was greater choice on the new channels than on the old ones.

Q&A with 585,000 bowed out on a solid note last night.

Addicted To Money on the ABC at 8.30pm: 678,000 for the first of three parts. It was OK, not ground breaking, just OK. I would have preferred the Irish narrator to have started with the predicament Ireland finds itself in where imprudent lending, insider dealing, incompetent and corrupt behaviour in business and in Government, plus the easy money greed of many ordinary Irish people (who thought there was easy money to be made in property), has destroyed the years of hard work that turned the country into the once boom country called The Celtic Tiger.

TONIGHT: Nine is tired. It has another Harry Potter movie at 7.30pm. Goodfellas at 11.30 in a far better watch, even in repeat. Ten’s highlight is The 7pm Project. Seven’s is Better Homes and Gardens. SBS. nil. The ABC has Midsomer Murders at 8.30 pm.

SATURDAY: The movie Kenny on Ten at 6.30pm (a repeat). Nothing on Nine and Seven (all repeats). Taggart on the ABC at 9.20pm (subtitles, please, ABC). SBS has Rockwiz at 9.20 pm which is at least local and entertaining. A very depressing night. Watch the digital channels.

SUNDAY: Sunday Night on Seven at 6.30pm, 60 Minutes at 7.30pm on Nine. Australian Idol, if I take my ear plugs out, on Ten at 7.30pm. Bones on Seven at 8.30pm, Rove on Ten at 9.30pm. Don’t forget the Sunday morning chats. On Ten’s Meet the Press, Environment Minister, Peter Garrett and Sri Lankan High Commissioner H.E Senaka Walgampaya PC.
