The Winners: Today Tonight won the night with 1.194 million, followed by Seven News with 1.166 million. Nine News was third with 988,000 and the 7pm ABC News was 4th with 953,000. A Current Affair was 5th with 932,000 and then the ABC royals gossip doco, Backstairs Billy: The Queen Mum’s Butler, averaged 930,000. The finish of The Amazing Race on Seven at 9.30pm averaged 833,000, Ten’s repeat of NCIS averaged 831,000 and Survivor Samoa (the second episode) averaged 8239,000. The first episode at 7.30pm 783,000 watched.

The Losers: My Big Fat Greek Wedding on Nine at 9.30pm, 629,000. Should have been less. Malcolm In The Middle on Ten at 6.30pm, 576,000. Gary Unmarried on Seven at 7.30pm, 776,000 (should have been less as well). Whacked Out Sports at 8pm, 755,000. Private Practice at 8.30pm, 782,000. All duds, even in summer. Just not interesting.

News & CA: Seven News again won nationally and in every market but Sydney. Nine will like that. One all to Nine and Seven with Mark Ferguson winning Monday and Nine’s Peter Overton winning last night, 283,000 to 279,000. Today Tonight beat ACA. The 7.30 Report averaged 815,000. Lateline, 263,000. Ten News averaged 714,000. The late News/Sports Tonight, 352,000. Nightline, 230,000. SBS News at  6.30pm, 156,000, 211,000 for the late edition. 7 m Sunrise, 343,000, 7am Today, 308,000.

The Stats: Seven and Nine dead heated with a combined 6pm to midnight All People share of 27.0%. Ten was third with 21.2%, the ABC was on 19.0% and SBS was on 5.8%. Nine won Sydney and Melbourne, Seven won Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. Nine finished a surprise third in Adelaide with Ten up to second. Seven leads the week 29.0% from Nine with 26.3%.

In regional areas, Prime/7Qld won with 25.4% from WIN/NBN with 23.0% for the main channel, Southern Cross (Ten) with 20.8%, the ABC was on 18.5% for the main channel and SBS, 8.2% for the main channel.

Digitally: It was 7TWO’s turn to win with 3.00% (Seven’s main channel was on 24.00%). Nine’s GO averaged 2.90% (Nine’s main channel was on 24.10%). ABC 2 was on 2.00% (leaving ABC 1 on 16.50). ABC 3 was on 0.60%. Ten’s ONE averaged 1.20% (Ten’s main channel was on 20.00%) and SBS TWO averaged 0.70% and SBS ONE was on 5.10%. That’s a 10.4% share for the six channels last night.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Nine’s main channel won narrowly from Seven last night. The digital offerings looked good on GO and 7TWO. Pity we had more old golf on ONE. The main channels were all full of boring stuff. The six digital channels grabbed another 10% share in prime time. In terms of sheer class, the repeats of Frasier and Seinfeld on GO stood out like beacons last night, as did Mother and Son on 7TWO.

TONIGHT: Don’t forget the digitals if you have digital. They could save your mind. And remember there’s Test cricket until 8.30pm on Nine. Seven has a repeat of City Homicide at 7.30pm. There’s the news and current affairs shows if the cricket isn’t your cup of.
