Glenn Dyer’s comments: Nine snuck home last night, while MasterChef was the lone win for Ten last night, unlike the night before when it had the top three programs. Seven would have fancied its chances of at least taking All People last night, but the dying ratings for The Pacific cruelled that hope.
That Seven doubled episodes of The Pacific from 8.30pm for a second week, with lower ratings, which tells us that the network has realised its boring for most viewers and the easiest thing to do is to show it as quickly as possible and write off the cost against whatever ad revenues can be generated. Episode 1 averaged 983,000 and the second, 810,000. Not good enough.
Hey Hey it’s Saturday was kept alive by its 469,000 viewers in Melbourne, the second highest audience in that market. That again hid the fact that it has died in Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth. That was 10th in the market, 13th in Brisbane and way down in Adelaide and Perth. Nine could run it in Melbourne on Friday nights when Seven has the AFL. Nine got home in All People simply because of Hey Hey in Melbourne. Seven and Ten were stronger in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth because Hey Hey was on Nine.
TONIGHT: Seven’s black hole. The Matty Johns Show in Sydney and Brisbane at 7.30pm is its strongest performer in this key slot. Having The Amazing Race later in the night isn’t helping at the moment. SBS has the Italian Food Safari and Costa’s Garden Odyssey. Nine has Getaway and Sea Patrol, Ten has MasterChef. The ABC has the documentary on the Rolling Stones album Exile on Main Street at 8.30pm for all us boomers to groove to while we go back in time and in mind. Program of the night has to be Glee on Ten at 8pm.
