Chris Bowen; not quite as popular as Mary MacKillop

You never miss your water til your camel gets blown up … no, I have no idea what that’s meant to mean either, but at least it fits in with the ongoing surreal nature of Federal politics, dominated by one major debate with plenty of emotion, no easy answers and no clear resolution in sight and another debate with …yes, all of the above.

While the Government and Opposition are in furious agreement on Afghanistan and the current parliamentary debate seems destined to have no short or medium term impact on policy, does it prove that its better to publicly discuss these issues even where the main parties agree?

Meanwhile the biggest mover of all was Chris Bowen, with the announcement on moving some families in detention into the community while they are being processed. Perhaps that might lead to a discussion of what asylum seeker families generally do once they are in the wider community i.e. get jobs, pay taxes, have lower crime rates than the rest of us…

Surprisingly few calls mentioning Tony Burke or Chris Bowen, be interesting to see if that changes over the coming weeks.

All us Catholics are now free to pray to the Blessed Mary, although why anyone else would care I’m still not quite sure.
