Make sure that you take the time out tonight to watch Kerry O’Brien present the final edition of The 7:30 Report. Love him or hate him, O’Brien is a TV institution and truly represents the best of the old guard. O’Brien is not a slick presenter. His style offers an honesty that simply isn’t present elsewhere on Australian television.
Testimonials to the importance of O’Brien will no doubt crop up across a number of TV blogs and news sites today, but I was particularly taken with this article from The Punch today. While the blog does get it wrong that O’Briens interview with John Faulkner was live (it was pre-recorded half an hour earlier), the intent of the piece comes from a good place.
It will be interesting to see what Red Kerry brings to Four Corners next year.
