The internet wars are underway, yet most of us toil away on the web, blissfully unaware that the conflict is only a click away.
News of another round of Chinese-sourced attacks on Google last week came only days after the United States announced that the Pentagon is developing a new cyber warfare strategy that could involve the use of military force in response to certain kinds of damaging online attacks. Back home, Estimates hearings have been revealing the extent of online attacks against the Australian Government, with the Federal Government also announcing the development of a new cyber strategy.
Bernard Keane and Sophie Black discuss Crikey‘s “War on the Internet” series — specifically chronicling the wave of attacks being launched by governments the world over on both the internet and its users. Regardless of how you use the web, this is a conflict that will affect all of us.
