The Winners: With Lleyton Hewitt on centre court in Melbourne last night, Seven’s evening tennis session from seven o’clock averaged 992,000 — up sharply from the first night (Monday) figure of 757,000.

The late session from about 10.30 averaged 739,000, up from 420,000, as Lleyton battled on.

The day session saw a fall to 448,000 from Monday’s 492,000 which was boosted by the Bernard Tomic win. The Sam Stosur loss yesterday afternoon would have sent viewers to the off button.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Nothing of note last night from TV. Tough choice, Nigella Lawson on the ABC or Lleyton Hewitt on Seven. Lleyton took nearly four hours to win his first round match, so Nigella’s confections were easily accommodated.

Tonight: The best night of the week. Don’t miss Outnumbered on the ABC at eight o’clock and The Thick of It at nine o’clock, Absolutely Fabulous at 9.30 and the final episode of The Trip at 10.05.

The tennis on Seven with Bernard Tomic at seven o’clock. End of night!.

Ten has a fleet of repeats from 7.30, Nine’s start at seven o’clock. Both are running dead while the tennis is on. If you want to watch the tennis, record the ABC. Outnumbered is the funniest program on TV for years.
