No ATMs, but plenty of punter cash. The Victorian government moved to protect problem gamblers by taking ATMs out of gaming venues. Which might have worked if punters didn’t have access to eftpos machines behind the bar — which have no daily limit. As one Crikey reader notes: “The Baillieu government reforms appear to favour the venues — gamblers now have no restrictions to access their funds in gaming venues.” We’re going to investigate …
Mediahub takes up Oz Network play. The ABC’s Australia Network service has been transmitting to the Asia-Pacific region via Newcastle and the Nine affiliate NBN for a good dozen years. That will end later this year; the contract has expired and Aunty has informed NBN it will move to the Mediahub playout centre in Sydney like the rest of the ABC TV network. “NBN knew that the plan was to transition over to MediaHub and agreed to extend the previous arrangement for 12 months while this transition occurred,” an ABC spokesperson told us.
We’re told today that will result in redundancies at NBN — perhaps eight or nine — but we weren’t able to get a response out of NBN or Mediahub. “NBN have been fully aware of the change that is coming and we have been grateful for their co-operation and assistance,” the ABC says.
Facebook nabs student? Apparently a student at a prestigious Sydney school was suspended last week for urinating on the front wall of a mosque and posting the photos on his Facebook. Not becoming of the blazer, that is.
