Asylum seekers and the Salvos

Tracey Naughton writes: I agree with Bruce Haigh (“Waiting for Salvation in a Nauru detention centre“, Friday) but what the Salvos are doing is a dirty job that some charitable organisation had to take on. Most internationally focused NGOs have the good sense to stay out of this abuse of human rights.

Australia should be ashamed of the small numbers of refugees we take on given the number of seriously uninhabitable scenarios globally. Words just don’t exist to say how ashamed I feel about the way we treat those who so bravely take what chance they have to escape the hell they are surrounded by in their homelands.

North Korea

Kitchen Cabinet

When Julie Bishop suggests that as a cooking show an apron is a must (with which Annabel Crabb agrees) and then produces one, Crabb anticipates it is the first of two. Bishop then proceeds to don it without it even occurring to her that the guest, Crabb, would suppose it was for her:

Human nature on display reveals:

  • Bishop conceives herself as a star,
  • Crabb conceives that a politician would treat her as a human.

Sorry, they are both wrong.

Ashby/Slipper

Andrew Haughton writes: Re. “Brough justice: Mal can’t slip the net on Slipper campaign” (Wednesday). The Opposition Leader claims there is no evidence of a conspiracy. Possibly. But if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then the chances are … it’s a duck.
