Another weak night for Seven, another solid night for Nine, thanks to The Voice (2.625 million national/ 1.908 million metro/ 717,000 regional), supported by half of Celebrity Apprentice (the challenge, which was watched by 1.777 million national/ 1.276 million metro/ 501,000 regional viewers). Nine also won in regional markets (the margin was a bit closer than in metro markets). Seven could only win the Perth market last night (holdouts).
The boardroom part of Celebrity Apprentice got around 400,000 viewer desert in metro markets and 640,000 nationally. It averaged 1.129 million national/ 829,000 metro./ 300,000 regional viewers. That’s not the best of looks when more than a third of the audience for the challenge bit doesn’t hang around to hear the trite words, “You’re fired!” Just around a third of the viewers for the challenge didn’t want to hang around for the result is one of those great mysteries of TV viewing and programming.
Ten had a stronger night, finishing a solid third and pushing ABC1 back to fourth. The Biggest Loser had 999,000 national/ 685,000 metro/ 314,000 regional viewers. NCIS at 8.30pm on Ten showed signs of its old fire and had 1.267 million national/ 876,000 metro/ 391,000 regional viewers.
Foreign Correspondent (928,000 national/ 650,000 metro/ 328,000 regional viewers) again showed us why its the best current affairs program on TV when it comes to international stories — the second part of the Ben Zygier spy story was great TV, just as the first one was.
And Can of Worms on Monday night was on Ten at 9.30pm, not 8.30pm, which made the figures look at little better, but not by much. It remains in need of an injection of relevance.

Losers: Nothing really — except Packed To The Rafters is certainly showing its age and a couple of years ago would have fought off Celebrity Apprentice in metro markets in particular. Rafters was again stronger (proportionately) in regional markets. Rafters’ 2014 return for Seven is is looking problematic. Rafters had 1.778 million national/ 1.138 million metro/ 640,000 regional viewers. That’s an OK national figure, an average metro number and a very solid one for the regional markets.
