Seven’s night, thanks to big wins in Adelaide and Perth and regionally. Nine scored narrow wins in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, but not enough to push it ahead of Seven nationally.

Seven’s House Rules — 1.730 million national/1.092 million metro/638,000 regional and The Block on Nine — 1.776 million national/1.242 million metro/534,000 regional viewers. Seven’s Packed to the Rafters — 1.797 million national/1.134 million metro/663,000 regional viewers. Once again House Rules proves to be more popular in the regions (as did Packed to the Rafters).

Australia’s World Cup win over Jordan was watched (on delay) on SBS ONE by 1.035 million national/761,000 metro/274,000 regional viewers and live on Fox Sports by 362,000 viewers. That’s a total of 1.397 million viewers for Australia’s great 4-0 win, and good figures.

Tonight: Nothing, but spare a thought for Seven. As actor, Rebecca Gibney has said on two occasions this year, Packed to the Rafters is over after six seasons and ends next month. But for the past six weeks especially, its continuing strength (nowhere near its heyday, but still solid) has been helping Seven to either win Tuesday nights or come close to Nine. It’s a late life strength and has been strongest in regional markets as we saw last night. But not enough to save it, but Seven will miss it.

Losers:  Croc College on ABC1 at 8pm. It averaged national/395,000 metro/regional viewers and was a waste of space. Bring back Foreign Correspondent, a program you can enjoy and learn from and be entertained. Croc College does none of that, but it is not as nasty, silly or rotten as Celebrity Apprentice on Nine (national/653,000/regional). Dying, fading, whatever you call it, this rogue show, this confected bit of TV spakfilla is weak.  MasterChef Australia (national/715,000 metro/regional viewers).Metro news and current affairs:
