Seven’s night in metro and regional markets and therefore nationally. The ABC nipped through into third in the metros, but got there by a bigger margin in the regions. Ten was fourth. In Perth, Nine was pushed down to fourth spot because Big Brother and the rest of the line-up didn’t appeal at all.

But it was Seven’s best win since House Rules ended a month or more ago. Nine was surprisingly weak as viewers deserted Big Brother, ignored The Bible and The Great Australian Bake Off. As I said yesterday, there was just no ratings synergy in that line-up. No one watching Big Brother would stay around for The Bible, and not many would be interested in baking sweeties, etc (although some of the Bake Off crowd with their sugar hit hangover hung around for their God hit).

Let’s face it, Big Brother 2013 is heading for the ratings equivalent of tears before bedtime. Its metro audience will dip below a million, possibly tonight, after it mislaid several hundred thousand viewers last night (is that the real “twist” promoted before the program aired?). It averaged 1.412 million national/ 1.042 million metro/ 370,000 regional viewers. Monday night’s debut averaged 1.734 million national/ 1.309 million metro/ 423,000 regional viewers.

Seven’s Home and Away (1.621 million/1.064 million metro/ 557,000) had more viewers than Big Brother in all markets and ended up fourth nationally on the night.

The X Factor on Seven dipped by 150,000 last night to 2.327 million national/ 1.510 million metro/ 817,000 regional viewers (as compared with 2.472 million national/ 1.633 million metro/ 839,000 regional viewers on Monday night). That helped lift Winners & Losers to million 1.521 million national/ 1.017 million metro/ 504,000 regional viewers — up more than 20% on its first couple of episodes of this season without a strong lead-in.

Ten’s Under The Dome did OK (MasterChef didn’t). The Dome had million 1.172 million national/ 984,000 metro/ 188,000 regional viewers.

Just another weak pot boiler with an unbelievable storyline that even Big Brother would question. The Great Australian Bake Off, also on Nine with 1.068 million national/  722,000 metro/ 346,000 viewers. On the face of it, that’s OK, but it’s sharply down on its earlier figures and the oven is going cold. MasterChef Australia on Ten: 880,000 national / 616,000 metro/ 264,000 regional viewers.
