A quiet night as the ABC said goodbye to its Monday evening stalwarts for another year. Seven won a close-ish night in metro markets, but had bigger margins in regional areas. The ABC beat Ten completely, but Nine grabbed the 16 to 54s with double repeated episodes of The Big Bang Theory. They had 1.4 million national viewers on average for the two, according to the early figures.
Home and Away (1.593 million national/ 997,000 metro/596,000 regional viewers) keeps building towards the ka-boom on the final episode for the year on Wednesday night. Storms, weddings, car crashes, births, deaths — they’re experts at Seven in leaving viewers hanging over the summer. It’s 90 minutes of “pleasure” for the core audience. Summer won’t be the same for them.
Ten’s flops were again the Modern Family repeats, the really poor Homeland (564,000 national/ 393,000 metro/ 171,000 regional viewers) at 8.30pm and then Blue Bloods (380,000/262,000 metro/ 118,000 regional viewers). They will continue into summer because there is no place for them in 2014 when official ratings start again.
Still at Ten, and the network got a rude wake-up call this morning with yesterday’s ratings for Wake Up and Studio 10 crashing badly yesterday morning. After getting top metro figures on Friday morning (56,000 for Wake Up and 76,000 for Studio 10), it was back to reality with terrible metro figures — just 24,00 for Wake Up and 25,000 for Studio 10 — the worst figures so far. A week ago the programs were watched by nearly twice as many viewers, so yesterday’s plunge has nothing to do with the day of the week. Nationally yesterday, Wake Up had 49,000 viewers and Studio 10 had 46,000. Wake Up had more viewers in regional markets, but only by around 1000.
