Round two! Today Education Minister Christopher Pyne will try again to push his unpopular university deregulation legislation through the Senate — with some minor changes.

Yesterday Pyne blamed a Greens and Labor scare campaign for opposition to the Coalition’s plan to slash course funding and allow universities to set their own fees — which was voted down in the Senate last night — but in fact a good portion of voters from the government’s own side oppose the plan. They’re not big fans of the other budget measures that are yet to pass, either.
