Seven’s night in both metro and regional markets as Masterchef and House Rules dominated the mid evening viewing. House Rules was second nationally (and sixth in the metros), thanks to very strong support from the regions. It had 1.690 million viewers. MCA had 1.415 million national viewers in another solid night, but was let down by weak engagement with regional viewers.

Seven News though again topped metro and national viewing (thanks to a solid performance by the lead in, the 5.30pm bit of The Chase Australia which had 1.207 million national viewers). In fact Seven News won Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth and lost Melbourne by a narrow margin.

Nine’s offerings — 20 to 1 (932,000 nationally) and Britain’s Got Talent (915,000 nationally) were not up to it and ran a very weak third.

In the regions, Seven News was tops with 717,000 viewers, House Rules next had 674,000, Home and Away had 588,000, Seven News/ Today Tonight was fourth with 536,000 with The Chase Australia 5.30pm on 473,000. Masterchef could only manage 346,000, so you can see why it ended up so far behind House Rules despite a 53,000 lead from the metros.

In breakfast, Today (343,000) moved back in front of Sunrise (309,000) as the latter’s Monday audience (366,000) and lead faded. News Breakfast on the ABC and News 24 added more than 30,000 to 180,000 metro viewers.
