Except for a couple of offerings on the ABC — Australian Story and Four Corners, it was a night to go to bed early. The commercial networks were devoid of anything interesting. Seven is coasting towards the Saturday start for the Rio games and the figures it gets that day will win the week for it. Nine and Ten know the next couple of weeks will be tough.

Q&A was dull — turgid after the past couple of solid Monday night offerings. Four Corners on the appalling way police officers forced out of their forces because of stress and the miserable way their claims are handled by their former employers and the insurers, was another top-notch effort. Don’t forget ambos, firies, and trauma doctors and nurses in casualty wards as well, who also see the dead, dying and dangerous.

In breakfast, Sunrise started the week with a win over Today, 321,000 to 291,000 metro viewers.
