Offspring left us, the final episode of this series averaging 810,000 metro viewers — down sharply from the 995,000 metro viewers for the final episode of series five, two years ago. In fact a comparison of the ratings for each episode in series five (all higher) and series six shows just how the core audience has drifted away. Series six, though, was hit by the Rio Olympics as Ten kept faith with fans and broadcast the program during Seven’s wall-to-wall coverage. Overall, the final episode had 1.074 million viewers including 264,000 in the regions (and that was a big problem for the series, the lack of solid support from regional viewers).
But Offspring and The Bach (1.215 million national viewers) meant Ten dominated the demos, especially the key female age groups and did best of all last night. Nine’s The Block hung in there though with 1.217 million. The Bach was more popular in the metros — 909,000 viewers to 851,000 for The Block.
Nine might have won total people and the main channels in the metros, but in the regions, Seven was a clear winner in total people and the metros. Ten though, followed by Nine dominated the demos.
Nine debuted Doctor Doctor last night — 1.139 million viewers and ninth nationally (759,000 metro, 380,000 regional). Not bad.
Regional audiences saw Seven News again on top with 670,000 people, followed by Home and Away with 516,000, Seven News/Today Tonight was third with 513,000, The Chase Australia, 5.30pm, was fourth with 500,000 and Border Security was fifth with 418,000.
Sunrise with 317,000 won the metro breakfast battle with Today (308,000) for a third straight morning!
