Seven: fancy having the AFL, and not doing a footy type show and leaving it to the buffos on Nine? And, after all these years, not being able to come up with a competitor? The two versions managed 1.302 million national viewers for Nine and won the night for the network. There 452,000 Melbourne viewers who watched the AFL version (but only 90,000 and 70,000 in Adelaide and Perth).

The NRL programs had 194,000 and 118,000 viewers in Sydney and Melbourne respectively. Together, the two versions of The Footy Shows managed 923,000 metro viewers and 379,000 in the regions. A further 121,000 watched the so-called “late” shows.

Apart from the Footy Shows, The Bachelorette managed 827,000 national viewers and GoggleBox Australia (both on Ten) grabbed 949,000. Apart from the News, Seven was an afterthought for most viewers last night.

The top five regional programs were: Seven News with 594,000, Seven News/Today Tonight with 492,000, Home and Away was third with 483,000, The Chase Australia 5.30pm had 465,000 viewers and the Footy Shows were fifth with 379,000.

It’s the Festival of the Boot Grand Final Weekend Celebrations. Go the mighty Swannies! (In the AFL, of course.) And the NRL? Who cares, Storm, Sharks — eat each other, with chips please. No Tigers, so I’ve only passing interest.
