On private lives and public interest
Keith Binns writes: Re. “No case for dragging politicians’ personal lives through the media” (Monday)
Bernard Keane is mostly right, but a politician’s personal life can be within the public interest and should be reported on if there is a large gap between their rhetoric and their behaviour.
If a long serving Prime Minister, for example, who has based his long political career on the “Judeo-Christian ethic” is found to have had a long affair then that would be in the public interest.
