On the Australian Christian Lobby

I couldn’t agree more with your correspondent’s comment that the Australian Christian Lobby speaks “for a very small proportion of those people who identify as ‘Christians’ on the Australian census”. I am a 76 year old long-standing Christian whose views are a million miles away from virtually everything I ever see put forward by the ACL. It is a travesty that the ACL is allowed to make out that somehow their antediluvian views represent where the majority of Christians stand. There are many thousands of committed Christians like myself who attempt to live out Jesus’ principle of the removal of all barriers between people under a banner of compassion, love, acceptance and forgiveness — principles I often find difficult to detect in pronouncements from the ACL.

Margot Saville should remember from her days in Toowoomba that the Shelton family was involved in the now discredited cult that was the Logos Foundation whose spokesman called for capital punishment for homosexuals. A little research will reveal that it is the remnants of the Logos Foundation which has spawned the Australian Christian Lobby.

On the Northcote by-election

It seems ridiculous for the Greens to hold celebrations after winning one seat. It seems even more ridiculous for an analyst like William Bowe to call it a “inner-urban insurgency”.
