On Malcolm Turnbull’s Newpoll woes
Laurie Patton writes: Re. “Turnbull’s Newspoll hole not just the result of hubris, but also terrible luck” (Monday)
I’m not saying I agree, mind you, but traditional political thinking would have it that there are probably two reasons why people want Malcolm Turnbull to stay as Prime Minister. Some, because they like him. Others because they know who they want to punish and don’t want the opportunity taken away from them.
On live animal exports
Meredith Williams writes: Re. “Live export cruelty a years-long horror story ignored by regulators” (Monday)
Live animal export must be stopped completely and immediately — no ifs, no buts, no maybes, no caveats. It’s time to put an end to this barbarism. There is no justification for it whatever.
If everything that had “no justification” was cancelled the world would be a fascinating place. Tax cuts for the rich? The US 2nd amendment? Coal-fired power stations? Fox news? The Murdoch empire? Soft drinks? Our Queen? Michaelia Cash? Peter Dutton? It could be interesting.
No Laurie. there are more reasons than just two. Fair enough that rusted-on LNP supporters, like him or not, will support him out of pure habit. Others, I suggest, continue to support him because looking at the sheer awfulness of the rest of the LNP team, he is the most presentable, even if totally ineffective. Good Lord, can you imagine another dose of Tony Abbott? Or Peter Dutton as PM? It doesn’t matter either way. Labor will be in in the next election.
I think Talcum and.. tuther bloke, wossername, are each others nest asset.
With a gnat’s winkle between them, they are each barely preferred anyone.
Not exactly a ringing, or even faintly tinkling, endorsement.
