Welcome back to TV ratings for 2019. Last night had more tennis on Nine, more cricket on Seven and more Sam Dastyari on Ten’s I’m a Celebrity. It’s doing well — a million-plus audience for last night’s elimination. Solid 300,000 figures in regional markets show a strong interest for a program that’s not really aimed at regional viewers.

Nine’s tennis won the night easily with 1.28 million nationally. Seven’s Big Bash cricket again lagged well behind with an average of 585,000 — that is less than half of Nine’s audience. In the mornings, Nine’s overhauled Today continues to lag well behind Sunrise — 323,000 to Sunrise’s 434,000. Today’s figures are still around the bottom of the 2018 range, which the program received when Karl Stefanovic was hosting. Any recovery is going to be slow.

In regional areas Seven’s 6pm News led with 478,000, then Seven News/Today Tonight with 438,000, followed by The Australian Open with 328,000, I’m A Celebrity with 313,000 and Nine/NBN 6pm News with 310,000.
