A clarification: yesterday I noted that TV number crunchers couldn’t remember such low metro ratings for Today (177,000) as the program had on Wednesday morning. That got number crunchers crunching. Nine kindly pointed out that the figure wasn’t the lowest — it was the 138th lowest, equal with the 177,000 recorded on August 12, 2005, and January 5, 2006.
So far in 2019, five Today broadcasts have had audiences of 199,000 or less in metro markets. Figures yesterday saw an improvement from Wednesday — 290,000 nationally and 201,000 in the metros. Sunrise had 470,000, down from 505,000, but remains the clear leader.
At night, though, Seven and Nine both ran dead. They rested MAFS and MKR, and Ten made hay with an I’m A Celebrity elimination episode. It was No. 3 nationally with 1.17 million. Gogglebox Australia returned to Ten after Celebrity and averaged 1.01 million. In the regions, Seven’s 6pm News led with 497,000, followed by Seven News/Today Tonight with 476,000, then the elimination on I’m A Celebrity with 333,000, with the 7pm ABC News next with 326,000 and the 5.30pm part of The Chase Australia on 323,000.
