Is the Foreign Minister’s daughter set to take up a job in her father’s department?
According to the latest edition of Adelaide’s Independent Weekly, Georgina Downer recently went for a job interview with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
We called DFAT to check if it was true. A department spokeswoman told Crikey this morning that they don’t discuss or disclose the details of job applications to DFAT but that all successful applicants are published in the Public Service Gazette.
As Crikey reported at length last year, Georgina Downer was the recipient of a Chevening Scholarship to study in London, awarded by the British Government.
At the time the Foreign Minister denied any impropriety in his daughter being awarded a scholarship by a close ally government of Australia.
