Leigh Josey and Tom Cowie write:
AFL fans would have learned today that Chris Scott — twin brother of North Melbourne coach Brad, Fremantle Assistant coach and dual Brisbane Lions Premiership player — has been appointed to coach Geelong.
Brothers coaching is rare. Brothers coaching at the same time rarer still. But what about twin brothers coaching at the same time? Or for that matter any twin?
Has this ever happened? In any sport?
The vast resources of Crikey Sports look to investigate this important, vexing question. This is what we found:
Rob Ryan is the current Defensive Coordinator of the Cleveland Browns in the NFL. His twin brother Rex is the Head Coach of the NFL’s New York Jets.
After serving as a coach of the USA wrestling team, Terry Brands now serves as assistant coach to his brother Tom at University of Iowa.
Tom served as Davis Cup captain, winning the prestigious cup in 1995, and men’s Olympic coach. Tim was the coach of Pete Sampras until he tragically died of a brain tumour in 1996.
